“THE MIDNIGHT GAME brings back the reclusive detective from Sullivanβs MIDNIGHT AT THE BRIGHT IDEAS BOOKSTORE, and what a case he’s landed! A child is found dead in the freezer of an underfunded parochial school teetering on the brink of survival. Was the boy’s death an accident, or was it murder? Tense, twisty, and endlessly surprising, with a cast of characters that will both charm you and break your heart… I loved this book!”
–Karen Dionne, author of the #1 internationally bestselling novel THE MARSH KING’S DAUGHTER and THE WICKED SISTER
“My favorite mysteries go beyond the whodunnit genre to a place of authenticity and truth, and THE MIDNIGHT GAME is exactly that kind of readβa crime novel with characters so endearing and complex they could be walking among us. As this tight-knit community in Colorado grapples with inexplicable tragedy, the investigation turns into one of existential stakesβa meditation on time, memory, and the blurred lines between intent and action.“
-Adam White, bestselling author of MIDCOAST

My NEW stand-alone novel, THE MIDNIGHT GAMES, will be published by Harper Collins/Hanover Square Press on Feb. 23, 2027!

It’s a stand-alone novel that ends (literally) where MIDNIGHT AT THE BRIGHT IDEAS BOOKSTORE begins. The story is set around the East Colfax neighborhoods of Denver in the 1980s, and follows Detective Harry Moberg as he works the case of a boy found dead in a walk-in freezer at his impoverished (& kindhearted) school. Was this an accident or a homicide, and why do so many creepy details of the case seem to be mirroring Moberg’s origin story?

In my mind, this is a haunting/funny/upbeat novel in which the mysteries are as existential as they are criminal. (And smoky Bingo games & (old) Casa Bonita!)

Should be in bookstores in early 2027…stay tuned!
